Lucca, just one more time....

Yes, that is Charlie eating pizza while playing soccer.
He was so happy to find boys who would play with him, we couldn't convince him to stop playing in order to eat! By the time we left Lucca that day, it looked like we had picked up an orphan.  He was covered with chocolate gelato and his feet were black from playing soccer barefoot!
He was happy though, and that is what matters most!

We spent a good part of the day enjoying the Piazza San Michele.
Lots of room to run and play!
Maggie with the San Martino Cathedral in the background.
Drew was kind enough to keep an eye on the younger set while we toured the Cathedral museum.
Mom enjoying a slice of "cuccina."
It is like pizza crust made of garbanzo beans and was delicious!
Drew showing off his skills!

Biking the ramparts again - a highlight of the trip!

Inside San Martino Cathedral - so beautiful!
Volto Santo
"The Holy Face"
Mentioned in Dante's Inferno, said to have been sculpted by Nicodemus in Jerusalem and set afloat in an unmanned boat that landed on the coast of Tuscany, from where wild oxen miraculously carried it to Lucca in 782.
We felt so blessed to be able to see so many beautiful, holy pieces of art on our visit.
Beautiful vista from the ramparts of Lucca.
